Strategic Expert Sayigh: Jordan will not be involved in Military Strike against Syria
Ammannet
2013/09/02

Dr. Yezid Sayigh, senior associate and strategic expert at the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut, ruled out the possibility of Jordan’s involvement in a military strike against Syria. Jordan would play an administrative role at most, Sayigh asserted.

In an exclusive interview with AmmanNet, Dr. Sayigh ruled out any steering of a military strike against Syria before the Western states and the UN. “The Friends of Syria have no desire or preparation for undertaking military action against Syria,” Sayigh explained.

As for the recent international defense meeting in Jordan, Sayigh explained that convening this meeting in Jordan lends an Arab dimension to approval of any military strike on Syria.

Minister of the Interior Hussein Hazza’ al-Majali reaffirmed his role in keeping Jordan secure, in reply to widespread Jordanian fear from the last 48 hours’ broadcasts of imminent military strike on Syria.

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari called for Jordan to remain uninvolved in the Syrian Crisis.
